We are incredibly grateful to Prof Chris Berney for the exceptional care he provided to my mother during her recent hernia surgery. What was initially expected to be a routine procedure turned out to be far more complex due to complications caused by a previous surgery done by another surgeon. Despite the unexpected challenges, Prof Berney approached everything with the utmost professionalism, skill, and compassion.
He took his time throughout the entire process, never rushing, always listening, and truly understanding my mother’s concerns and needs. His patient and thoughtful approach made a world of difference, especially for an elderly patient who needed not just medical expertise, but genuine care and attention.

My husband is 82 years old and was very nervous about undergoing surgery because of his age. Dr Berney was able to reassure him that he would respond well to keyhole surgery and that his recovery time would be minimal.
The surgery went well and after a one night stay in the hospital he was able to leave the next morning, with very minimal pain and no difficulty with walking. He has had 2 follow up visits and has healed very well.
I cannot stress how grateful we are for Dr Berney's expertise and reassurance as well as his clear explanation of what to expect during and after the surgery.

In the last two years I have had two ops in bankstown hospital .one was gal bladder, and the other was a large difficult hernia. Dr Berney performed both surgeries . I was delighted with his very welcoming manner and performance.bankstown hospital was a pleasure to stay in,the staff and the nurses couldn't have been nicer. I would recommend anyone going in for surgery not to be worried,especially if you have Dr Barney.

I was recently diagnosed with a inguinal hernia and my GP referred me to Professor Christophe Berney for further evaluation and treatment at the National Hernia Institute.

From admission to discharge I was constantly being care for with the utmost care and professionalism.

I have worked in many Sydney hospitals, I can attest to the fact that there are 'standout' surgeons and 'so-so' surgeons. I have a finely tuned radar for both. Prof. Chris is a standout and I wish other surgeons in Sydney could match him on his processes and standards. And genuine patient care.
Today is 6 weeks since my operation and every review you read on this thread about the Prof and his team is authentic.
I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Prof Chris and his team to anyone in need of hernia repair. Prof Chris, his anaesthetist Dr Michael Tobin (very important), the assistant surgeon and imaging Doctor. And importantly, Lauren & Morgan at reception.

DrBerney did a fantastic job on my partner Beverley Jackson's stomache hernia was major surgery 5 hours long ,but thankfully dr berney did a marvellous job considering the amount of work required, she is recovering well and after 16 weeks she is now able to remove belly band is pain free, being a 72 year old she is now back to her happy bubbles self after living in pain for so long. I really do thank dr berney and his team for giving my wife her life back ❤️

I’m a 72 year old medical doctor and had surgery with Dr Chris Berney for correction of a hiatus hernia that was causing reflux and ulceration of my oesophagus. This was leading to anaemia. I had previously had fundoplication in 2006. I had some relief for a few years but ultimately a lot of my stomach had herniated into my chest cavity close to my heart. Dr Berney was able to dissect this from my mediastinum and bring it down to my abdominal cavity. He fixed it with mesh to the diaphragm. Six weeks post surgery I am symptom free and my anemia is improving. I highly recommend Dr Berney. Dr Siridev Abeyewardene.

What an unbelievable and positive experience with Professor Berney and his team. My hernia operation was undertaken 2.5 weeks ago and my recovery has been amazing and pain free. The surgery was done with no internal stitching or staples. Pain meds not required post surgery. Now back to light cardio workout. Other family members have had the same surgery with different doctors and different procedures, however they experienced long term pain and required strong meds post surgery. Family have been amazed at my recovery. I'm 64, and expected recovery to be tougher. Can highly recommend Professor Berney and his team. His care, professionalism and expertise cannot be underestimated. I'm so grateful that I was referred to Prof. Berney for my hernia surgery.
